Maternal Health Food and Nutrition Pilot
Despite medical advances, pregnancy and birthing-related complications continue to increase in the US, particularly impacting Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) birthing persons.1 Additionally, the prevalence of food insecurity among the BIPOC community is more than double what is experienced in white households.2
To address these nutrition-security and maternal health disparity issues, Blue Cross® and Blue Shield® of Minnesota and Blue Plus and NourishedRx developed a culturally-congruent food and nutrition education program for BIPOC birthing persons who were members of the Blue Plus Medicaid health plan.
